Is there any programs to pay off medical school loans?
Becoming a doctor is no easy task. The loans sometimes reach over $100,000 and I would like an easy way to get rid of those loans. I have heard of programs where serving overseas could reduce loans and now I would like to know more about. #doctor #medicine #hospital-and-health-care

You can pay off loans under The National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which offers tax-free loan repayment assistance to support qualified health care providers who choose to take their skills where they’re most needed. Check out https://nhsc.hrsa.gov/loanrepayment/index.html
Licensed health care providers may earn up to $50,000 toward student loans in exchange for a two-year commitment at an NHSC-approved site through the NHSC Loan Repayment Program (NHSC LRP).
Best of luck to you.

There are several online companies that offer to pay a certain amount of student loans ( generally it seems to be $50,000 )for usually 2 years service. This generally entails you working in an underserved area and you need to apply to the program to get accepted. Most med and dental school students have $200,000-250,000 of student loans.

Hi Deepa.
Your concern about student loans for medical school education is legitimate and it can be a Substantial amount.
But there are certain aspects of medical education which are reassuring.
First of all once you are done with your medical education and has the degree of an MD or DO, The pay scale is is high enough To pay off your loan within few years.
Secondly there are some programs where once you have your degree you can get employment in those programs such as federally qualified clinics which offer partial loan Reimbursement. Thirdly if you Enroll in military also you can get reimbursement of your student loans to an extent. Try to explore these areas. Good Luck.

Usually doctor salaries are 200k+ so it's possible for most to pay off their debts (which are also commonly 200k+). When you graduate med school, pretend like you're still a broke college student. Yes you might have a lot in you bank account if you're a doctor but you have a WHOLE LOT more with those student loans. Additionally, I know there's some debt relief programs where you can serve in the public sector or in low-income areas and have your loans forgiven after several years of service. I suggest you look into those.
