Simon’s Answer

Engineers solve problems. As a civil engineer you might do a few, or all the following in a normal day. Meet with a client to understand their needs, explore/discuss different solutions, create concept and/or detail designs, work with equipment suppliers and/contractors, write a scope of work or contract, visit a job site....engineering has lots of variety. If you find that you prefer an area after exploring several areas, you could specialize in that area. I personally liked the variety and liked to follow a ptoject from start to finish. It gave me a lot of satisfaction seeing something I fixed and/or created.

There is no typical day in engineering - Also what Simon said ^^

In environmental/geotechnical consulting my days ranged from all office work to field + office to all field.
