Is it better to live an apartment or in school housing?

I'm curious as to whether it's more expensive to pay room and board throughout college or renting an apartment. #art #tuition #room-and-board #vcu

I have lived in both and while an apartment may provide more ability to design and make it yours, a dorm is a living area where you really get to know the people around you and if you are having a problem they are the most logical to turn to (as they probably have been in or are currently in the same or similar situations).

This will depend on a few factors, including what area you would be living in and if you want to have roommates or not, is there parking or will you take public transportation, do you like to cook or eat out, etc. For example, Boston is a very expensive city to live in with rent being well over $1000.00 for a studio apartment and parking almost never included. If you can find a group of "good" roommates, that helps to defray the cost, but this can get tricky with leases and people not holding up their end. Definitely research what the current real estate market is like compared to what the school is asking for room and board.
