Saira’s Answer

A pharmacist is a licensed health professional who has completed a pharmacy program in college and has earned a pharmacy degree. A program must be a minimum of 2-3 years of undergrad and about 3-4 years of professional years of study in a pharmacy program offered by a college institution. Once a student has graduated from the program, he or she must take the NAPLEX which is a national board of pharmacy licensure test followed by a law exam per state that you wish to practice in. Salary is based on experience, field and sometimes location. A pharmacist can make anywhere between 80-130k
A pharmacy technician does not require schooling although there are technical classes that may be attended and are recommended to compete for jobs. They work alongside the pharmacist assisting in technical work needed. Their salary is based on experience, field and location as well. A pharm tech can make anywhere between 17k-30k

Hope this helps!

A pharmacist went to school for 4 years and can tell you about the medication and give suggestions. A pharmacy tech can fill the medication, but cannot give advice or suggest and medical advice. They cannot fill narcotics in some states as well.

Lori’s Answer

Pharmacists make a lot more money than technicians do, However they have much more invested in their career than technicians do. Pharmacists have gone to school for 6 years and carry the legal burden for any mistakes that could happen. Pharmacists are trained to answer questions and make medication recommendations. Technicians are valuable partners in the pharmacy realm, but do not have this same training or responsibility and therefore make far less. Technicians typically do the leg work in filling prescriptions and the the Pharmacist checks their work to ensure accuracy.
