Dan’s Answer
I’ve always wanted to do something in the healthcare field. I knew I wanted to become a doctor specifically after taking physiology during undergrad, you learn how every system is connected and how damaging it can be if the connection is disturbed by any imbalance.
Thank you! It sounds fascinating when you put it that way :)

Hi Jane! So choosing the healthcare field, whether doctor, nurse, PA, etc., has to do with the experiences you have. For example I decided to pursue the career of a physician when my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia. I took care of her and I also explored the academic side of what she was facing with this debilitating disease. Afterwards I started to become immersed in the academic side more such as studying science and math. My high school biology teacher inspired me as well, as he talked about how the biological sciences relates to real life medicine. It is also important to get a feel for the healthcare field, so you can shadow a physician or volunteer in a health setting as well. If you are a high school student there can be limitations but you can seek the advice of your guidance counselor and see volunteer opportunities as well. As a college student your opportunities can expand and you can use campus volunteer opportunities in the healthcare field like volunteering at the blood drive or even search opportunities in nearby hospital settings. It takes time to decide if the field is correct for you so give yourself time to explore options and see how you feel about working with patients. Best of luck!

Dear Jane, it is an interesting question. In my case, I realized that I could be a good doctor in the future after I studied about Bou-Ali-Sina, a famous Iranian physician and his life's story inspired me to continue my way to be a doctor. Of course, Bou-Ali-Sina is a famous worldwide physician and you can find something about him just by a simple Google search.

Richard’s Answer
Watching my family members who were doctors made me want to pursue the career. However I didn't end up in family practice as I imagined while I was in college. I found radiology and specifically interventional radiology more suitable for me.
