Great question!

I have been a licensed PA for almost a year now and I am personally very happy with my choice. I work full time, and have a side business doing wedding coordination. I am married, but don't have kids, so I can't speak to that but I do have more free time and get more sleep than my MD colleagues at work. I personally chose to be a PA over being an MD for a better work-life balance and I have found that I made the right choice for me. I also think that it depends on what specialty you choose (ie. surgery vs. primary care) but overall my experience is that PA's have more opportunities for a better work life balance because of less schooling etc... I think you could definitely have a well-controlled life with a good work -life balance. When choosing what specialty want to follow, you need to keep life style in mind.
