Michele’s Answer

If you know the company that you want to work for the first thing to do is to start a conversation with them. Either engage on social media or call the company and ask to set up an informational interview. At that meeting be professional and have questions prepared to ask them. Let the company know that they are your employer of choice when you are job searching in the future. Remember, this is an informational interview for you to find out inside information about the company. Doing this allows you to connect in a way that is not asking for anything. Do not ask for a job! You are building a network connection so that when there is a job available you have a contact to reach out to.

Latricia’s Answer

Hi, Brooklynn

Not sure if you are asking two different questions. Let's say you are and that the first question regarding a mechanic was answered by John.

For the second question, you wrote "Plastik" do you mean Plastek Industries, Inc in Hamlet North Carolina (a part of Plastek Group, headquartered in Erie, PA)?

From their website, http://www.plastekgroup.com, they hire plastic machine maintenance staff, quality inspectors, machine engineers, and machine process technicians. Most roles appear to require making sure the machines that create the plastics we use every day are programmed correctly, run properly, and are maintained routinely - plus management and administrative roles to supervise staff and manufacturing orders. What skills and education do you have that align with these roles?

If you live really close to the plant, perhaps speak to someone who currently works there about the skills/experiences that the company needs.

Good luck.

John’s Answer

Brooklynn,

I have seen your question for the last few days and since I am not from your area, I am unsure of the quality of service that the shops in your area can offer.

What i do suggest is doing a google search for every mechanic shop within the desired distance from your home town and make a list of all of them rating them from top to bottom as your #1 choice to your least favorite. Call each location and see if they are hiring, if they are seeking a certain type of skill, and if you have that skill.

If this doesnt seem to help, I suggest revising your question.

John recommends the following next steps:

Google Search by distance
Make a List
Do Pros and Cons
Analyze your skill set and what you have to offer a perspective employer
