Here are keys attributes employers are looking for:
Leadership skills. What leadership role did you hold while in school? Were a president or vice president or other role within your organization? What set you apart from other college grad? What work experience do you have? Employers want to maximize their return on their future employee. Are you coach-able? Outside of school, what else did you do? Did you work while in school? Anyone can just study, what else are you bringing to the table as a potential employee? How well have you work on a team, what role did you play on that team? Great GPA will get you that interview, but will not guarantee you the job that you want. You have to be able to communicate effectively both written and oral. You should practice interviewing before you actually go into an interview. Good luck Sarah. Let me know if this helps and if you need more help.

Hi Sarah D. I see that you posted this question a little while ago so I hope my answer to you (or others who may read this response) is still helpful.

As I respond to your question in the year 2021, I share that one of the many things that employers are looking for in applicants (college grad or otherwise), is their ability to connect with others in a virtual space. Since the global pandemic has taken hold of so many parts of the world, many more jobs consist of workers who work remotely (that is not in an office setting). In can be a little more challenging to get connected and stay connected to peers, supervisors and important tasks when remote working is the norm...but it doesn't have to be hard.

Another important trait includes candidates that can demonstrate ways that they are strong self starters. In other words, candidates that seek to learn and do. Really this could be just another form of engagement but it signals that the candidate has thought about how to get things done, in innovative ways, and doesn't always need to wait to be stepped through a series of tasks. Naturally, in a new job, a candidate will have to learn "how things work" but if that candidate can show ways that they got good results by moving forward with good ideas and good processes, that can go a long way in impressing hiring employers.

Best of luck to you!
