How long is medical school?

People tell me medical school is about 8 years, but I heard the time is longer because of what you want to specialize in. #doctor #medicine #pre-med

Niana’s Answer

Medical school is typically four years followed by four years of residency (first year is usually your intern year and the next three years are residency rotations in your specialty). After residency, some doctors decide to do fellowship, but it is not required. Certain specialties may be longer, but this is the standard timeline for most medical students/doctors. Hope this helps!

Richard’s Answer

In the US, to apply to medical school, you need a bachelor's degree which takes between three and five years depending on the major. Then four years of medical school. After that several years of training in residency before you can enter practice.

So typically it takes 12-15 years after high school.
