Besides obtaining a position as a teacher with a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching, what other opportunities are available with that degree?
I am currently enrolled at Lone Star College, working on my basics to obtain an Associate's of Arts Degree in Teaching. I will be transferring to University of Houston to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching. I am certain that I want to be certified to work as a teacher in k-6 grade levels. After achieving my goal of obtaining a Bachelor's degree, I am planning to continue with my education while I am obtaining experience as a teacher once hired in order to become a school counselor. However, I am wondering, if I do not continue my education to achieve a Master's Degree to work as a school counselor, are there other options available (employment related) with a Bachelor's Degree in Teaching? #teaching #elementary-education #schools #school-counselor

Congrats on knowing what you want! I am impressed with your goals and it seems you are well on your way to achieving them.
To answer your question, I am a certified Elementary teacher. I taught school for 3 years and then was recruited outside of teaching. I spent 12 years in Pharmaceutical Sales. About 7 years ago, I chose to change career paths again. I started at a somewhat entry level as a procurement specialist for an oil company. I worked my way into management with that company and a year ago I was recruited to Dell as a Sr. Manager in Supply Chain Management. It is my opinion that having a teaching degree lets an employer know some important details about you. You are able to learn information and then translate it in a way that someone else can understand it. This skill is used in any profession and means that you should have many different options upon finishing your degree.
Best of luck to you!

With my certification complete, as a teacher I interviewed with an educational tour group, be a tour guide and show groups of students and teachers the sights.. In my case it was in DC and centered around Social studies and government. I am sure there are other around, science, languages and literature to suit your talents. they are interested in teachers because they want you to be able to interact with kids effectively.

I would encourage you to,complete your masters degree, which you can probably do while you are teaching. It will open avenues for you. You can teach at the college level as a part time instructor if you have a masters degree, you mentor students. And it just buys you much more credibility for any profession working with children. It took me 17 years to complete my bachelors and masters degree because I had to attend at night since I had to work. I never counted the time, just ke pt. Going to,achieve what I would ultimately want to do professionally. Before I taught I became a children's magician and because I had a teaching g degree it gave me. Lot of credibility with people t o take a chance because I was a teacher, even tho at that point I hadn't yet taught full time. Don't give up, continue to go for your teaching credentials, whether you teach or become a guidance counselor. It was the most rewarding and noble profession to be part of. Good luck

Congratulations on your career path! When you first start teaching, you are trying to discover where you fit best. With that being said, look into club sponsorship, after-school programs, and being mentored by a veteran teacher.
During my tenure, leadership positions, such as department chairs, were held by those with at least a Master's degree. Since counseling seems to be you want to take your career, work closely with the counseling department and network. Go for your Master's.
