Hello Edgar, being in the FBI isn't always like TV shows us. It can be a very stable position where ever you are! There will be better opportunities perhaps in those locations that involve long hours and relocation but frequently involves a lot of what cops do. You show up to an office building, do your work and go home. The academy does typically involve relocation for several months but after that depending on your role you may just be the guy that investigates issues in your home town?

One of my closest friends is an agent with a family. As far as I understand, they receive assignments in a particular location and stay for a 3-5 years or more, similar to being stationed in a particular location in the military but for longer periods. When graduating from the academy, they submitted their top requests for locations across the country and were placed in one of their top three choices. Depending on what they're working on, there may be LOTS of travel, so that can be difficult for a family.
