What is the first step a recent graduate take towards their career?

In preparation for when I graduate #graduate

Thank you comment icon Applying to jobs, interviewing, understanding your career path and passions are all important, as the other commenters have mentioned. Also networking is huge: make sure you are reaching out to alumni for advice and connections. You would be surprised on how many are willing to help you out, even though you don't know them. Cold emailing/calling people or alumni at companies you are interested in can help. Don't be afraid to reach out, the worst that happens is they don't reply Kyle

The very first step towards a career is to look for a job in the fields that interest and intrigue you the most. You’d probably say this would be very difficult when we’re recent graduates with probably no experience, which is very right. That’s why planning ahead your career while you’re still in college is the key. How? Internships and part time jobs. These two fundamental elements prepare you for the job market by acquiring the personal and technical qualifications certain positions require. Phillip also mentioned networking and he is right, internships/part time jobs among others will help you grow your professional circle before graduating. Another thing is to have as much interviews as you can. Personally, internships interviews helped me understand what the interviewers are looking for, learn how to convince the recruiter I'm the candidate they're looking. Another advice is to start applying few months before you graduation as it takes time to get feedback.
