Hi Kesha -

This is a tough question, because I think it is subjective. While I am a college graduate (studied Finance and Economics) and have been fortunate to receive the opportunities that I have, I cannot say that I've used much information from my college classes. That said, I've been able to open doors for myself that if I hadn't gone to school, I don't think those same opportunities would exist.

Ask yourself these questions:
1. Do I want to go to college or does my family want me to go to college?
2. Is the person or the people I want to be like attend college?
3. Map out which professions require college vs. which don't and compare options
4. What am I good at? Am I naturally gifted in a sport or an art? Or would formal education assist me in finding that out?
5. Does vocational training make more sense? (Diesel mechanic, plumber, electrician etc.)

Hope this helps. Go after what YOU want to do!

Uttara’s Answer

College is definitely worth it in terms of possibilities of jobs that are open to you with a degree vs. without a degree. Some majors pay better than others, so you need to research career opportunities in your preferred majors, and the entry level pay-scales, average pay scales for people with that major. Then, try to ensure that you are going to the college that will be the lowest cost of attendance for you, after looking at aid, scholarships, etc. Try to take on as less debt as possible. A higher paying major will help you pay it off more easily than a lower-paying major. Good luck!

Hi Kesha, it worth, I will proof it, but let me throw some ideas before. Why you want to study? What you want to do for living? Do you have a Dream Job? Does this job require preparation? Which are the requirements to apply for this job?

Once you thought and answered those questions, you maybe arrived at the idea that for applying to that “Dream Job” you want, you need to have some related knowledge and skills. Those skills could be developed on College, if you choose the Degree that will prepare you for that. There are some options to obtain that degree: technical degree, Public College, Private College, Community College, and so on. You need to review the pros and cons of each option and see which apply the best for you.
