I recommend looking at local companies or even non-profit charities that you are interested in. You can ask if there are any volunteer programs or internships with their companies. Express that you are interested in learning about their business. If you have a great resume, certainly apply to bigger companies (or if you love the company, apply anyways!), but sometimes it's easier to get an internship at a smaller company so that you can build your resume. Good luck!

The best way to find an internship is to ... ask. I will elaborate, but tell me a little more about yourself: grade, interests, etc.

Hi Senad - I would start by checking out your career office to see if they know of any internships. I would also go online and research companies you may be interested in and see if they have any programs. Also ask people who you may know work at companies you would be interested in working at for the summer to gain experience.

Networking is very important when looking for internship opportunities!

  1. Resources
Most colleges have a career center or internship coordinator that may have the best resources available to you. Have your resume reviewed by them, attend workshops and find out about available opportunities.

  2. Research
Take the initiative to search for opportunities online using LinkedIn, Indeed or any site to filter out positions you are particularly interested. A good tactic is that when you apply, try to connect with someone you may know in that area, company or department and reach out to them via email or social media.

  3. Start Somehwere!
Often times, people are trying to get their dream job immediately, but you have to show some experience for your ideal career. Ask to volunteer, shadow or take an unpaid internship to learn all you can know about it! Start locally or get one through a connection.
