What is the best way to ensure the right credits get transferred to a 4-year college?

I will be attending John Tyler Community College this fall, and I am planning to transfer (sooner rather than later) to VCU after I finish my prerequisites. I will be majoring in general science with the intended career path of pre-medicine; therefore, I will have a wider variety of job options. However, with many in's and out's of pre-med majors, or in my case a science major, it is known that credits can get lost in the mix. I would like to avoid having to take unnecessary classes while at John Tyler and take as many valid credits as possible. How can I be sure that my transfer between colleges will contain the correct pre-med credits? #college-advice #college-transfer #college-advising #college-advisement

The best way to ensure the right credits are being transferred over is to schedule an appointment to talk to your academic / college advisor. Your advisor will have a lot of resources and information on what requirements you need to fulfill n order to transfer to the school you want to go to. They usually will create a "roadmap" for you as well.

Talk to both your academic/college advisor at John Tyler Community College (JTCC) and an academic/college advisor at VCU. If transfers from JTCC to VCU for this major are common, they may have a list already pre-made to guide students on which classes would transfer and how they would transfer. Also, ensure that both schools are the same accreditation (preferably a REGIONALLY ACCREDITATION is best). Other factors that may contribute to whether or not credits transfer are whether or not both schools are on the same course schedule (such as semesters vs. trimesters).

Good for you being aware that this is a concern. Keep copies of final grades from each semester. Look at the major requirements and check of items as you complete them. If/when there's an issue you will have records in hand of your classes and grades.
