Is it best to take time off in between undergrad and graduate school to pursue things like work or travel, or is it best to just take everything in one big breath?

I can see the positive and negative possibilities with both taking time off in between graduate and undergraduate schooling and I'd like an experienced opinion. #teacher #professor #student #advisor #career #career-counseling

Bobbi’s Answer

Hello Tyra,

It all depends on the individual. I did not take time in between and I felt it was easier because I still had the mindset of a student. However, taking a break can help you figure out what you really want.

Dawn’s Answer

I did it all together and found it was best for me. When I decided to go back again 4 years later I had a much harder time remembering how to be a student, but as the above answer says it's really dependent on what you feel best doing. I have a friend who just went back after 10 years and said it was REALLY great for him.

Mona’s Answer

I think this all depends on the individual. I personally, took a year off before I went to graduate school and instead did a coding bootcamp to see what it was like. Upon graduation from it I received a job offer and have not gone back to obtain my masters. If I were to go back and do it over again I think I would get my masters degree right after undergrad, it seems exhausting but I think it would be better to finish it in one go, instead of taking time off and delaying it.
