How difficult is it to get accepted into a good medical school if you go to an in-state university?
I've always dreamed of becoming a pediatrician but when it came to choosing a university to attend I decided to go to Texas A&M University in College Station. I am afraid that due to the competitiveness of the field, getting accepted into a well known medical school will be unbelievably difficult. #medicine #pre-med -school

Collegeboard.org is a great resource for this! I poured through the pages of universities all over the U.S. when I was a senior in high school. Collegeboard was my go-to site! They put all of the information in one place and it is very easy to use. They even have various filters you can apply to see only colleges that have programs you are interested. To determine academic rigor, look at the admissions requirements, G.P.A. of past admitted applicants, SAT/ACT scores, class rank etc. This will give you an idea of what scores and grades you need to be accepted. However, don't be discouraged your application will be reviewed based on the full picture! College-board will help you get an idea of what is most important to the specific school you are applying to.

Just to give you an example, one of my friends goes to UT Dallas but he was able to get into most of the top medical schools in the country (he is going to John Hopkins next year). His stellar GPA, research at the University, and great MCAT score were what got him into the program. Focus in on yourself and don't worry about the "prestige" of where you are studying. Good luck!
