How can I get a chance to job shadow a psychologist if things are confidential?

I have asked to job shadow some counsellors but they say that their job is confidential. I don't know how I can see what my dream career will actually be like.

You could talk to professors with experience. You could still meet with a psychologist and ask them questions without observing their sessions. You could YouTube counseling session examples (they will most likely be actors but it isn't far off!). I also learned a lot by actually going to counseling myself. I saw a couple different therapists and that is ultimately what led me to my current field of study. You could also volunteer at Crisis Lines or at shelters.

When coming up with questions for professionals you might meet with, think about why you call this you dream career (what is it that draws you to it) and ask them questions to see if what you imagine lines up with their answers! Good luck to you!!!
