There are lot of people who want to be an actor and not many of those people actually get the opportunity to do so.
Why not combine the 2 ? Study to be an engineer and at the same time join a drama club to practice your acting skills.
This will allow you to have many options.

It definitely is worth it especially if you cannot see yourself doing anything else. If you do have a job and all you think about is how to become an actor then it might be time for you to start preparing or taking the steps required to become an actor.
