Sachin’s Answer
Hi Samyukta,
I would suggest that you focus on understanding what line you would like to pursue for your career. That's most important.
Once you do that; and are sure that you want to become a doctor, apply - you might get a scholarship.
Having said that, if you decide to apply to Harvard, don't get too disheartened if it doesn't work out. There are many other good colleges in India and abroad as well that would help you realize your dream of becoming a doctor.
I wish you all the best.

Hi Samyukta,
Being from a middle class Indian family and having no clue what to do after 12th, I can totally connect with you. I think if you want to do Bachelors from Harvard, you should start your preparation now for the entrance exams. It you are planning for Masters then you can do undergrad from India and Masters from USA. For finance stability, there are tons of options for fees waivers like Assistantship. When I came to US for my Masters, I was really worried for my finances. Luckily I got assistantships and finally I am graduating with no education loan.
Start preparation now
Always have a backup plan with you
Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss it you will land among the stars.

Madhusudhan’s Answer
Today, students are faced with numerous options and several courses all of which look almost equally gainful and interesting.
wide range of courses available today have further complicated the decision making process for the students. Gone are the days when a career as an engineer, doctor, chartered accountant and in other such core fields was the only good career opportunity.
Students today have far more options available, They are far more open to experimenting with new fields and are building the careers with Fashion designing, professional photographers, Digital platform and many other such fields that were completely unheard of a few years back.
Below major points that students should factor in while deciding upon the best course for them ,
Your Interests
Understanding of the course
Future Prospects

Hi Samyukta,
Honestly, after 12th, the world is yours to discover and evolve as you please. Just be mindful of the time and energy med school requires. A quick jump into the required schooling and training will yield a faster approach into the career you want. What I suggest is looking at all the options before you. Take the summer to intern (hospitals are always looking for volunteers) so you can see for yourself how things are and talk to people that have or are trying to reach their goals.
Also note that these are not quick achievements, you will need to put in a lot of time and effort to succeed. However, if it is your dream, than that should only propel you to push forward. Talk to school counselors and mentors to gain a better understanding of the fields you are interested in. Take the summer to research and explore other interests, sometimes you discover other things that are just as fulfilling. Or maybe, just use the summer to relax and enjoy friends and family before embarking into college. Don't forgot that everyone needs a little downtime to reserve energy and strength for the work ahead. Take a moment to understand what it is you want. Doing something because it is expected or rushing into things, can lead to burnout and unhappiness. Now is the time to define what it is that Samyukta desires. It is your life - never forget that.
All the best on your journey!
Take the summer to look at what you want to accomplish in your life.
Spend quality time with family and friends. This is not only fun, but keeps you grounded.
Try an internship or volunteer to determine the necessary requirements.
Explore other options that may be presented to you.

Anand’s Answer
It is difficult to give a direct answer as what after 12th. However, what is important to assess (within yourself) as what you want to become. I know at that age you do not know as what you want to become. But you always have some inclination, passion towards a subject or a line of profession. So try to look into those. Or even better, first list out - what you do not want to do or become. Then you might have fewer choices. After that take a call.
What I did was basis my liking. I spoke to people who were already in that area or subject. I spoke to people who never liked that particular subject. That way I could get both pros and cons of that subject. Last but importantly, try to asses as where your strengths lie. Work to the best of your strengths. Take advice from your teachers and seniors. All this will lead to top 2 or 3 options which you can work on and then take a decision.
Hope this helps!
