Absolutely, OT is a growing field. It is becoming even more important as our population ages. Older frailer patients need significantly more help getting back to normal after an illness or surgery.

It is a growing field for sure. Competitiveness depends on where you live. If you are in a rural area there probably won't be many jobs to choose from. If you're near a city you might be turning down work because there are so many openings and not enough therapists to go around. There are certain facilities that are leaders in their field where it may be somewhat competitive to get into but for the most part every interview I've had was fairly brief with an immediate job offer. New therapists have supervision requirements but after a year or two you have the option of working per diem, home health, or travel jobs. If you want to look at your specific area the Occupational Outlook Handbook and AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association) websites are helpful.
