You might consider conducting an informational interview with a person who works at a counseling center, hospital, or other psychiatric facility. Professionals who work at one of these places can offer guidance not just about remote volunteer opportunities, but about the logical steps you can take to embark on a career in psychology and neuroscience research. There may be virtual opportunities such as conducting research, appointment setting, data entry, etc. they can recommend, beyond crisis hotlines. But first, ask yourself some questions to narrow down what it is you want to pursue, where your talents and interests lie, in what part of the world you want to work, etc. Then, conduct an online search for websites of places you can contact - clicking on the "About Us" and "Contact Us" buttons will help. If someone agrees to chat with you, have a list of questions prepared in advance, or email them a list in advance of your conversation. Beyond that, a simple search for "research jobs in neuroscience" may turn up solid results. Good luck!

Hi,

As far as your question about volunteer work is concerned, here are some opportunities that should be interesting to explore:

1. 7 Cups (as a Volunteer Listener) - https://www.7cups.com/listener/become-a-volunteer-listener.php
2. Prison Journalism Project - https://prisonjournalismproject.org/volunteer/
3. Amnesty International (as a Decoder Volunteer) - https://decoders.amnesty.org/

Hope this helps.

Dr. Kelly’s Answer

Several remote volunteering opportunities exist that can offer invaluable experience in psychology and neuroscience. The field of content creation is currently on the rise, presenting a win-win situation for both students and businesses. Offering your services to create educational content related to psychology or neuroscience can be an enriching experience. This can encompass writing articles, producing videos, or crafting educational resources for organizations that promote mental health awareness or education.

Alternatively, you could consider a role in research. Numerous psychology and neuroscience researchers carry out studies remotely and often require help with tasks such as data gathering, conducting literature reviews, or analyzing data. Universities or research institutions could be contacted to explore the possibility of virtual volunteering opportunities.

Rickey’s Answer

Hi Chris,

Yes, I see there a few volunteer opportunities in psychology that may have remote opportunities available on the following site: https://careersinpsychology.org/internships/Ohio-internship.

It looks like they have volunteering opportunities through the United Way and Boys & Girls Club which have always been seeking volunteers even under the current circumstances.

Hope that helps and I wish you well!
