Elijah:
My feeling is the best thing about IT security is the ever changing landscape that requires continual learning and constant change. That continual learning makes you grow and gives you new experiences all the time. This makes the jobs exciting and there usually are no boring days in IT security. There are also many paths in IT security, from being a security engineer designing secure solutions to being a penetration tester who tests how secure a system is for an organization.
I would recommend checking out https://www.sans.org/ site for a lot of good information on cybersecurity and signing up for their newsletter.

Hey Elijah,
IT security is a promising and fast evolving field. Investments in IT (digital transformation) is top of mind for almost every company in today's world and security is a major investment area for companies as they embrace a more tech. enabled work environment.
All this to say that over the next decade or two there is going to be an abundance of opportunities in this area.
Furthermore, the constant evolution in this field, requires one to continuously learn new skills and hence you will constantly learn and grow professionally.
Hope this helps!

There are always new problems to solve while keeping on top of previous vulnerabilities that can co-exist. IT Security keeps you on your toes--which can be good and bad, depending on how you take it. I have been in this field for 15 years already and cannot imagine changing fields. It is ever-interesting and engaging.

Every day is different, every client is different, and the evolution of the hack changes every week. While we are dealing with the same premise of protecting assets and data, the threats are evolving, adapting to defenses, and can be innovative to meet the objectives of the hacker. It constantly requires learning skills, technologies, and methods of mitigation based on the evolving threat landscape. You are never bored, performing the same repetitive task, and always challenged to handle the last threat.
