What career choices I have with interior design and Japanese?

I been studying interior design in college but due to some academic issues I have to change to Japanese which I still want to be doing something with design. Is there any career choices that can combine the two together? #interior #japanese #interior-architecture #interior-designer

Judy’s Answer

As with any skill set, there are always a percentage of peopole that are self taught and will excell with their innate talent.
You can always be self employed, but if is you aim to work with a large design firm, they are quite strict and require a definite skill set. They will want you to be proficient in Auto-Cad, Photoshop and various other programs.
So you need to decide if corporate design is for you or you strike out on your own.

When I was working to make a career pivot in Japan to become an interpreter there, I found that language proficiency alone doesn't necessarily make a career. Expertise, experience or both in a career field PLUS language proficiency were critically sought after by recruiters. With that in mind, I believe it's only to your benefit to pursue both of these areas of study. Building your resume in both areas will help you win that perfect Japanese/Design job when you find it!

I think you can pursue the career as an interior designer specialized to Japanese restaurants. I find many Japanese restaurants recently out side Japan but most of them don't have authentic Japanese interior unfortunately. You can utilize your skills as an interior designer, language skills (English/Japanese) in the restaurant industry. Hope it may help your thoughts. Thank you,
