Hi Camryn, TFA has a very informative website that can probably answer many of your questions: https://www.teachforamerica.org/teach-with-tfa/how-to-apply

Speaking as a former TFA Corps member, I can tell you that to get in, you should be actively involved in campus during undergrad, have leadership experience, be a hard-worker, well organized, and do well in school.

Salary ranges and is entirely based on the first year teacher's salary for whichever school hires you (TFA does not pay you, just helps you find a teaching position through their partnerships). It is highly dependent on region, but as an example, the first year salary in Providence, Rhode Island, where I taught was between $35,000 and $40,000 per year, depending on the school.

Hope this helps, and best of luck!

Lou

Thank you comment icon Thank you very much! Camryn
Thank you comment icon Yes- I would recommend you checking out their website for specific information. I watched several YouTube videos too before I was accepted as a corps member. Erica Sheltry

Hi! I did TFA in 2003, and I agree with what was said above. Mostly they help you get a job and salary varies by region. You will likely make a starting teacher salary and one that matches a person who doesn’t have an education degree. I had emergency credentials and was paid less until I earned certification my first year. Each region also offers different opportunities for further school so if that matters to you then choose your region accordingly. Mine offered a masters by the end.

Emma’s Answer

Current 1st year TFA member here. Each region is super different, so I’d encourage you to reach out to your recruiter to get more specific information for each location you’re interested in. Mine was able to connect me with people who were located in those regions as well as people who had gone through similar experiences in college as me before deciding to join TFA. They’re there to help you — use them!!

Your salary comes from the school you teach at, so I get paid the same amount as other 1st year teachers at my school, but different amounts from other 1st year TFA teachers in my region. I hope that helps!
