The SAT scoring system is out of 1600, which is measured through two sections, reading and math. On each section, the absolute minimum anyone can score is 200, whereas the max is 800.

For the ACT, it's a bit different. Everything is out of a scale of 36, and the four sections (reading, writing, math, and science) each get their own number out of 36. However, most colleges will want to receive your composite score, which is calculated when you receive your scores. The composite will also be out of 36.

In my opinion, take both. Many SAT questions are there to trick you, but the ACT packs more total questions in than most people could comfortably answer.

Hi Yenifer,

Study along with your classmates. It could make things more interesting.

Also, visit the website of the colleges you want to go to. They usually provide the SAT scores of their admitted students on their websites.

Best of luck,
Herman

The best studying you can do is taking practice tests before the real test. The SAT and ACT cover too many topics for you to cram everything in, it should all be based on things you learned in school. The practice tests are great because they get you used to the format and the types of questions to expect so you aren't caught off guard. Since the test is timed it is also a good way to learn how to pace yourself.
