How emotionally strong does a nurse or anyone in the medical field have to be?

I am a first year college student who wants to go into the medical field. I am aware that the medical field can be straining emotionally. However I am really curious as too how strong or "cold-blooded" I may have to be. #doctor #nurse #emergency-medicine #paramedic

Never give up compassion and empathy. And if you need a day off because you saw something crazy(I saw a kid die). Take the day off, start healthy habits, do yoga, spend time in nature, go to counseling. Stay away from the booze, nicotine and caffeine and tattoo gun(I love my wine and tattoos but you get the idea). The internet is full of sources that can help you.
This one is for first responders but I'm sure they'll lend an ear to the medical community

Never give up empathy and compassion. Especially as a nurse. You don't have to be cold blooded. The patients heal better when they are treated with empathy. Don't become jaded.
