With the coronavirus running rampant, what are some ways in which I can discover opportunities for internships and jobs in general? Will the search be more or less difficult?

I'm a current prefrosh attending college this fall but I'm a bit anxious in regards to the amount of jobs that will be available during my first semester. #JULY20

Hello Denzel,

Personally, I have found that there are not less amount of jobs but instead jobs will look different. For example, there are still internship programs that are taking applications, but the programs are now online and virtual. The pro to this is that this allows you to apply to jobs that are outside your normal area and opens more opportunities. I have heard of some companies that are on a short term hiring freeze, but as a whole I feel like the opportunities are still there if you keep looking. As a college student, one way I have stayed up to date on job postings is on the career page of my college, LinkedIn, and hiring sites.

Along with the top two answers. Make sure you connect with your career center at school. They are a really good resource when it comes to finding jobs. Try your hardest to network as much as possible in the virtual world. Covid-19 did not kill networking. It is the best way to get many opportunities. Build relationships with your professors too! They will also have many connections within the community you go to school in.

Chris’s Answer

Be actively engaged in recruiting/networking. If you are looking for jobs at a larger company, get on LinkedIn and build a strong profile. Once you have completed that profile, feel free to reach out to recruiters at prospective companies and see if they can chat about positions they may be offering or just general info about the company. Be proactive! Hope this helps and good luck with your search!
