I am an international student in Hongkong and I am stranded right now because I couldn't achieve my plan of doing some jobs in the summer. I wonder what I could be doing in the meantime before this pandemic goes down, please advice me.#July20

Hello Dare,
As someone interested in Data Science and Research, you can likely find projects online to become involved in and help with as many organizations are looking for help.
Check out https://www.datacamp.com/projects as a starting place
See if there is anything at https://www.datakind.org/ of interest to volunteer for
Use the visualizations you create to provide examples and show off your skills as you apply for jobs

Greetings! I know the situation has been a bit difficult in Hongkong for multiple sides so definitely don't lose heart -- so many people are experiencing similar difficulties! I would indeed suggest you talk to more people, even those you are not quite familiar with but can understand your professional interest or have been experienced in the field. Talk about your goals and fears. Listen to their experience and seek suggestions. For one thing, the job market now is tough thus networking is ever more important to increase your chance of getting a good spot. Also, the pandemics and work-from-home era actually helped all of us to arrange meetings with low costs. Lastly, it is simply very meaningful for everyone to feel more connected with other humans in this difficult time!
make a list of people in the related professional field you may wanna talk to
send out invitations to arrange a 30min virtual meeting with them
make a list of questions you want to ask during the meetings
