Judith’s Answer

To write a dissertation, first you write your thesis statement. This may be one or two sentences. Continuing along, you make your personal statement, what you are going to prove, persuade or influence. It is good to proceed with a comprehensive outline. Taking the time to read and research supporting materials is very important. Read at least 25 pages a day to advance. Also every day, take the time to make at least five pages of notes from your research. Stay focused and eliminate distracting activities. Little by little this will progress. If your theory does not have enough support, you may have to revise with your advisor. You can do this.
It is important to have the correct format for your work. Check with your advisor about what he and the board want from you. I wish you all the best.

John’s Answer

Are you pursuing a Masters degree or Phd? A thesis, commonly required to obtain a master's degree, is supposed to test a student's understanding of his or her field of study, so this could be just about anything in your field. A dissertation is usually done by a doctorate student and focuses on original research.

To pursue either, ask your professor and others to see examples so you can see what they look like and will give you a better idea how to prepare for them.
