How stressful is a career in event planning?

I've heard it can be stressful. And I've experienced a little of the stress myself. But I'm wondering if it's worth the stress, and if it's really as stressful as they say it is. #event-planning #planning #stress

Hi Caitlyn,

Event Marketing is VERY stressful! You need to know everything that is happening, ensure it all happens, and happens smoothly. That might sound like an over-simplified sentence but at the end of the day this career path is not for the weak-hearted. You also have to be very good at juggling many things all at once and be able to keep your composure through it all.

In the end, if you're passionate about what you're doing it's always worth it, but you'll need to answer that one for yourself. If you don't love what you're doing, don't do it.

Hi Caitlyn,

Every career path is stressful to be honest. I would spend time figuring out whether you want to work for a company or for yourself. Often times we enter the workforce and quickly learn the career we choose isn't the one we want to pursue and end up regretting the investments in education and time sacrifices that were made to get there. So to prevent this I would ask myself the 5 W s and 1 H.

Who: are the people I want to work with?
What: event planning make me happy if I had to do this 5 times a week?
Where: do I want to live in the future (location)?
When: do I enter the industry (before college or after)?
Why: am I passionate about this career path?
How: how much money will I make from this career (will this amount be enough to cover my life style that I want to live)?

For me, I keep entertainment events ( caribbean parties, jouverts) and I truly have a passion for planning these events. It makes the long hours of selling tickets/ promoting event, finding venues, negotiation food/ alcohol prices with vendors, decorating, finding entertainment (Djs, performers, etc), and leveraging your own money to make this happen worth it every time I see the joy on the customers face and check that gets deposited in my account after. But once your work hard, pay attention to detail, leverage your resources, you will do an amazing job! Good luck!
