There are so many avenues in IT jobs today. Best thing to do is utilize your resources as much as possible. For example, try reaching out to connections you have on LinkedIn or school alumni to see if they'd be open to a quick candid discussion about their day to day in a particular job or area that interests you. This will allow you get first hand insight into what its really like rather than just general items that may be posted on the internet. Additionally, it might be a good opportunity to take a role that you may not be as familiar with a larger company as this will allow you to learn new skills that will differentiate you and allow you to move onto future roles or different roles within the same organization.

IT can go in many different directions. There are info-security tracks, technology, you can even go in to software engineering if you know how to code! If you're passionate about technology, many IT departments also hire networking or enterprise engineers as well!
Research IT departments at companies you're interested in and see the different tracks

Hey Nancy
It is great you are looking for an internship/ entry level job, I would say that probably is a good idea if you apply to activities you are fond of, but keeping your mind open, many times what we believe is our dream activity, turns out not to be what we imagined, if I were in your position and with the experiences I have, I would search for companies that have activities that I find interesting as first criteria and is also worth to check what are the trends of the industry (for example cloud computing, microservices, data analytics, ML etc ), and I can not stress this enough, keep an eye open of other activities as well, I am guessing you are young so don't try to get everything figured out, no one can do that, go and learn as much as you can.
Good Luck

I recommend making an appointment to talk about possible internships or first jobs with your professors and also with a career services staff member at your college. These folks usually don't find positions for you, but they may be able to tell you what other students have done to get experience or they may have information on actual openings that you can then apply for. Once you have an idea of what you might be qualified for you can then reach out to organizations that appeal to you and ask for opportunities since many positions are never advertised. It is great that you are ready to pursue an internship or first job because getting hands-on experience before you graduate is important.
Thank you So Much.

Hi Nancy!
I'm so excited about your internship job search journey. I'd recommend starting with putting together your resume and LinkedIn. After you do that, I would start using the LinkedIn job search tool and seeing if you have any connections (whether it's a 1st and 2nd degree connection). If you have any connections in this company, I'd recommend connecting with these folks on LinkedIn and ask for an informational interview so you can learn more about the company.
Hope this helps!
