What business major is the best career-wise?
I’m a rising senior in high school who wants to study business but am not sure what area/major. Most colleges have specific business majors and I’m not really clear on the careers associated with each one so if anyone could help clarify that it’d be appreciated! #JULY20

I would recommend pursuing a major in Information Systems with a focus on cyber security. It is currently a high demand area and such a degree would compliment and bridge the business and technical teams. Some careers leveraging such a degree: Systems Analyst, Project Manager, Program Manager. Eventually, a business degree would guide you towards a technology leadership role if that fits with your aspirations.

Most colleges will not require you to declare a major off the bat, so feel free to pick something general like Management as you explore classes and learn more. The majority of colleges will have the core majors including: Management, Accounting, Finance, Marketing. These are pretty standard in terms of what you will learn and the jobs available to these majors are a plenty.
In addition to these, colleges typically have newer majors/minors such as Information Systems, Data Analytics, or the like. This would be the way to go if you are interested in technology, security, etc.
Minors are typically a few classes less than a major, but good to get exposure to another degree, area of interest, or continue learning from great professors!
I graduated with Finance & Marketing majors and International Business minor, and found that it took a few internships during college to help define what I really wanted to do with the degree, so I highly recommend hands-on experience and exposure to different industries and career options. I took these degrees and went into Sales at first before transitioning to Customer Success and eventually Operations. Keep in mind no matter what you pick, you can always explore your own path after college and learn on the job! Hope that helps.
