Similar to Alan, I'm not in the Interior Design field and I do not live in NY. Getting an internship is similar across most fields. I'd suggest finding any Interior Designers in the area you want to be in and reaching out to them. Send an email complimenting them on their work and be specific. Their websites are a great place to start since they likely have a portfolio on there. Tell them why you're interested in Interior Design and let them know you're eager to learn. Finish the email asking if there is any work they need help with coming up. This could be a great foot in the door. Even if they don't have an internship for you at the moment, you've made a new networking connection in the field. Best of luck!

I don't live in NY and i am not in the interior design field but i know when i was in high school i wanted to do an internship in my field (multimedia production) and i was able to make it happen. Several variables to consider; most companies will be much more amenable to giving you an opportunity to do a high school internship if it is unpaid. Also, in order for the company to not risk having a challenge with using "unpaid labor" you may want to speak to your guidance counselor re getting some type of HS credit. If that is not possible then i recommend seeking a not for profit in the field that could use your assistance as an unpaid intern. The experience and relationships you build will be even more valuable than the small wages you could potentially earn.
