Opportunities for experience for an Apprentice Electrician?
I am wondering where to direct students who are curious about an apprenticeship as an electrician for gaining experience, skills, and knowledge about the profession before pursuing the career.

The best education and training will be with the IBEW. There are also opportunities for with the Independent Electrical Contractors and the Associated Builders and Contractors, they have apprenticeship programs as well.
Hi Joe, can you explain what IBEW is for those who may be unfamiliar?

Thank you for your question. The International Brotherhood if Electrical Workers (IBEW) is an organization serving the Inter States and Canada. They have local unions around the country with multiple in larger states. In your area, Local 46 would be a good place to start collecting information regarding an apprenticeship and benefits that are available when you become a member. There are pre apprenticeship programs available as well. Each state, county, and city may have their own specifically so you’ll have to research that too. Hope this helps. Best of luck to you.
