This is a good question! certainly it depends from person to person and the amount of responsibilities they hold with them. For someone who comes from a below poverty, they must work for their living and look after their family's basic requirements. For someone who is from a middle class family background, though there is no dependency from them to earn for their family, so they work just to take care of their expenses and not to be called out by someone as jobless. Then someone from a rich background, they have an option to either work or do some family business.
So doing a job is must for every human being for their living, and to contribute to nation's development through tax and help society as well!

Basically to earn money for living. And, Indirectly to contribute to the society by prodcuing and building things.
