Abby’s Answer

An anesthesiologist is a doctor (MD or DO) who practices anesthesia. Anesthesiologists are physicians specializing in perioperative care, developing anesthetic plans, and the administration of anesthetics.

Hope this helps!

Jason’s Answer

This is a medical doctor that specializes in managing pain before, during, and after surgery. These are the doctors that "put you to sleep" for procedures.
There are also outpatient docs that specialize in pain management. For example, I needed injections in my spinal cord for pain that would not otherwise resolve with medications. I went to an outpatient who was able to give me an epidural injection in an office setting.
