A couple of quick questions. Are you bored with your major? And, would a minor compliment the major you have?

Hello! It depends on what your major is. You may find that your "day job" is focused on your major course of study but you find gigs for flute players -- orchestras, bands, pit orchestras, studio work, weddings and church work, you might be able to teach, etc. But you never know -- you could study neuro science and research the effects of music or treble based music -- on the brain, on development. If you are asking this because adults say, "Well what are you going to do with a flute minor?" then I would say don't worry about your answer. I assume you are minoring in flute because you love it and are good at it and want to get better. That's the same reason why people study Math or Computer Science. Though there might be more easily (publicly) identifiable jobs associated with certain majors, that is not the be all and end all of undergraduate education, especially for a minor. You are working your brain, taking challenges, meeting people, growing, learning. It's all good. Tell the adults you are thinking of law school, that'll usually make them feel better -- ha!

Well, that depends upon what your major is. For degrees like Computer Science, you can build software for music production or device engineering. For journalism or business degrees, you can enter into the music industry as a writer or A&R professional. The general idea is to major in something that is commonly utilized in the music industry. Many majors have some role in the music industry from photography to account or from sales to marketing. I would recommend looking first at jobs in the music industry. Once you find the kind of roles that sound exciting, you could then isolate which majors are required or recommended for those jobs. Good luck!
