Hi there,
I see you are in Jersey. So assuming you've got the BA in psych already, you would not really be looking for an internship unless you are currently enrolled in a graduate program. Regardless, you are near Trinitas Regional Medical Center. They have a huge behavioral health program including inpatient for kids, adults, as well as developmentally disabled which is a specialized unit. They also have outpatient, crisis/screening, as well as other programs. I would give them a call and see what they can discuss with you. I worked there years ago and they are good people.
Best of luck- let me know if you've got more specific questions I can help with as I am in jersey as well.

Hey Mariel!
How exciting that you know what you'd like to do with your career!
In order to do any type of internship, you would need to be matriculated in a graduate program- either counseling, psychology, or social work.
One of the things I suggest, and something that I did, was I became an administrative assistant at a mental health clinic, just to kind of get a feel of the work the clinicians were doing. During that time I was not allowed to see clients or anything like that, but I got to help out the clinicians with research, and answer phones, which gave me some experience in speaking to clients. The clinicians were amazing to work with and I learned a lot.
I ended up getting into my graduate program and became an extern there and ended up working there after graduating.
Best of luck on your journey!

Hi Mariel,
Internships are great opportunities! Glad you're looking into them. If you're still in school, I recommend looking into Research Assistant programs - you can find a professor whose work aligns with your interest and see if they are in need of assistance. Some universities specifically have Research programs (sort of like work/study) that'll help you connect with those in the field at your school, earn some money, and gain experience.
If you're out of school, I echo Monica's and Jason's answers - finding a local health clinic/organization/hospital and seeing what kinds of roles are open can help you get a better understanding of where you can go and jobs that, although may not seem to directly relate to psychology, will open doors into the career you're interested in.
Hope this helps and best of luck!
