As with most professions, the average salary for a career depends on three main factors- 1. Location, 2. Experience, and 3. Company. Your location as an optometrist will definitely impact the amount of money you will make in your career. For example, according to ziprecruiter.com the average salary of an optometrist in New York is $132,283 but for an optometrist in North Carolina it is $97,017. However, these are numbers for someone who has years of experience.
For someone who is just starting their career as an optometrist (less than a year of experience) the national average salary is $51,808. However, again this is still dependent on location. The average entry-level salary for an optometrist in New York will still be higher than the optometrist in North Carolina due to cost of living.
Lastly, it is important to consider the company you work for. Some companies/businesses will pay more than others. Also, if you own your own practice your salary will change. So when looking at average salaries for a specific career I would suggest looking at zip recruiter and taking into consideration your location and experience level and it would probably make sense to look into the amount of debt you may accrue while pursuing this career. I hope this is helpful!
