Hi there,
I think studying abroad is one of the best experiences ever! There are many different ways to do this, either with a formal group or "informally" on your own. I had a connection with a friend from high school from South America. Later, I took a year off from college and went and studied Spanish in Paraguay. I was also able to teach English as a Second Language. Living abroad allowed me to perfect my Spanish and meet friends that are close to me even 20 years later. In addition, the time abroad opened my eyes to other experiences, cultures and lifestyles. It was very enriching and rewarding!

Study abroad was certainly beneficial to me and a foundational stone in my career path! Many years later, I can say that my initial study abroad experience helped me to gain confidence in navigating other places and cultures. Even to this day, when I travel around the world, I can trace my ease with new and unfamilar places to the experiences I had when traveling to Costa Rica for the very first time. It was also beneficial in that I was able to share who I am with others that may not have come across someone like me before. Witnessing how my presence broadened someone else's ideas and thoughts was a very enlightening experience. So the learning goes both ways and as I said, has certainly shaped my career toward international education.
I do hope that you study abroad and find equally beneficial experiences.
Best wishes.

Hi Lera,
If you have the opportunity to study abroad, I would recommend taking it! During my time at university, I spent a summer in Paris studying international business, with a specialty in Marketing. The experience not only enriched my life professionally by preparing me for a global rotation in London, but it also helped me better appreciate different cultures and lifestyles. I came back to the states more open-minded and knowledgeable of the world.
Hope that helps!
