What year of college is it when I should apply for any internships or coops and how do I go about getting in touch with companies that offer these types of programs?

I'm an Engineering major and want to get into Engineering Management. Not sure when to start looking into these programs #college #professor #manager

I got my internship after my junior year, but sometimes you can get something after your sophomore year. I would start during your sophomore year because even if you don't get anything, it will put your name out there and it will help the following year. My school had very little opportunities for internships, so I went out and found the companies that I was most interested in.

Best wishes!

Check with your Advisor or see what your school recommends, but don't be afraid to reach out on your own for opportunities. First year students might look for shadowing experiences or observations as a way to see what the field is all about and to start building your network. Also, find the professional organizations for your major - see if they let students join for free or at a discount. I don't think it is ever to early to learn about your field. Be thankful for each experience you get by writing and mailing thank you notes - the personal touch makes you stand out.

Best of luck to you.

Its never too early to start building a network but be sure to balance that with other responsibilities. I actually wish I started working a little later so I could focus more on studying and myself before jumping head first into a career. Good Luck!
