Bryce’s Answer

Hi Gabby,

From my understanding the high end journalism jobs are pretty competitive and often time require the most experience. A good note is that with the internet growing day by day online journalism jobs are growing and the field is becoming less competitive. This means not only could you be writing from any location of your choice, but you can find jobs and internships without even having a bachelors degree. I hope this helped you with your question.

Donna’s Answer

Gabby, How competitive a job or career is I would hope would not be a deciding factor. If you have a passion for journalism, it can lead you into many arenas. As you build your knowledge and find your footing in the world, you may have some journalism jobs which maybe are not so rewarding as writing a front page article for the New York Times or running your own Blog site. Yet each experience is going to form you into the person you want to be both professionally and personally. Good Luck in your endeavors and don't compete with others only your own expectations.

Natalie’s Answer

I can understand your question especially with a career such as journalism. What you need to identify is what type of Journalist you have in mind. For example, what type of journalism is where you are most passionate about. Journalism is competitive especially if your dream is to do it for the major publications.

With that being said, I think it is such a special career path because you don’t have to start out glamorous. You can write for various smaller sites and in your own time continue writing about what makes you passionate. From there you can get hired by a publication like Forbes. I think it’s a challenging job market but in a good way.

Natalie recommends the following next steps:

What does your passion for the career in journalism
Once you know what you want, leverage your network to see if you can get insight into their career path
Publish passion work that make people want your voice to be heard
