How can I make myself stand out when I am applying to colleges?

I have suffered from many illnesses over my high school career which have prevented me from participating in lots of school activities and volunteer programs. I also didn't get the chance to participate in AP classes and my GPA is 3.73, not the greatest. I participated in choir and I was the tennis team captain but thats about it. How can I make myself stand out to colleges compared to other kids who have done a lot more and have better grades then me? #college #college-applications

You already wrote your answer in your question! Talk about your illnesses in your college essays. Tell us your story, even though you were plagued by illness you did not give up you maintained a 3.73 GPA (which is actually pretty good, it is above average!) and participated in tennis( being captain is impressive-talk about that) and choir! This will make you stand out because you had the strength to persevere and do activities even though lots of obstacles were placed in your way. That will impress college admission officers!

Best of luck my friend. Feel free to reach out in the comments if you have any further questions.

Hi Hannah!

A good way to stand out is to develop relationships with graduates of the college that you intend on attending. You could talk to the head of alumni relations of that college to arrange to meet and talk to graduates of that school who are working in your area in your career area of interest, so that you could learn more about the school and they could learn more about you. If you develop a good relationship, they may even be willing to write a letter of recommendation which would greatly help.

Best of luck! Please keep me posted. I would like to follow you progress!

Taking as many AP classes as possible is a great idea. These classes teach you valuable information and provide free college credit. They are also impressive to admissions committees.
