Craig’s Answer

Hi Bria,
Ask yourself what you like doing , make a good list and narrow it down to top 5. Then figure out (google is your friend) what the qualifications you need and also what kind of salary and conditions you can expect, once you are happy with this make a top 3 list and then look at how you can get practical experience, talk to people in the field

Donna’s Answer

Music is a very competitive and unforgiving field to move into. You sound committed and it takes a great deal of sacrifice. You don't say how old you are or what grade, but the optimum age to make it in the industry is between 18 - 26. Not saying you can not have opportunities in other venues. You specified Rap but how diverse are you? What instruments do you play? Do you have a back up band? Do you work with a local recording studio?

Here is a success story, maybe similar to you. Young man, writes his own lyrics, plays piano, guitar, drums, and horns. Has a small band and they are doing small gigs around town. They record a couple albums and compete in some local and national competitions. He wins a big national competition and works with some well known artist; as he does his own recording (mixology). As you can see this young man is very diverse. His primary musical income comes from work he does in the recording studio for other artist and up coming like you. He has toured with Arianna Grande and a few other as a opening act. Yet he still struggles to pay rent, buy groceries, and have the creature comforts.

Donna recommends the following next steps:

Assess where you are in your musical career
Make a vision board on things you want to accomplish 1 year, 5 years, 10 years
Consider an option B -- if you are not making it as a Rapper, what would be your fall back opportunity?
