Where can I intern to prepare for a post-secondary teaching career?

I realize that being a college professor requires a lot of experience and I would like to accomplish that by interning somewhere or for someone that can prepare me for this career. #professor #intern

College teaching is an area where a version of the apprentice model still exists. First, I would suggest seeking out opportunities to develop teaching experience. On way would be to participate in a program like the Breakthrough Collaborative: http://www.breakthroughcollaborative.org/teach. It would give you a sense of the skills to develop effective instruction. Then, in college, you should seek out any TA or tutoring experience. Let the faculty in your major know you are interested in becoming a professor. They will be your best resource for getting into the right grad program and finding opportunities to develop teaching and research skills.
