How do you go about finding a summer internship?
I have just finished my sophomore year at the College of Charleston and was not sure how to go about finding a summer internship before I headed back home to New York. I'm a double major in Business Administration and Hospitality and Tourism so at my college there is a list server for Tourism majors you can sign up to receive emails of local job openings and internships available in the Charleston area. It's very convenient and useful as many of my friends who are staying in Charleston over the summer were able to find some great jobs through it. Now that I am back home in New York I'm struggling to find a job and I was curious as to whether there was something like that here, something that students could sign up for and receive notifications of job listings in a specific area, for a specific major or certain age such as a college student. #business #internships #college-jobs #hospitality #tourism #new-york #openings

Hello Liz,
Typically generic websites like indeed and linkedin will let you set up alerts for internships for specific keywords as you've described. However, I would also recommend websites specifically tailored to undergraduates looking for internships such as internships.com and looksharp.com. Also, if you have specific firms you'd like to work for, regularly monitor their career sites as well, that's how I found my job at Dell and some positions don't show up on external job search jobs.
Of course the most effective way to find an internship is by reaching out to 2nd or 1st degree contacts on LinkedIn and asking for an "informational" interview. This will show that you are curious about the firm and the jobs, isn't pushy and usually creates a good first impression as long as you do some research beforehand to understand what the firm does, etc.
Good luck with the internship search!

Looks like a good starting point and I would also suggest you talk to a counselor at your school specifically about resources they would recommend you speak with in NYC.
Good luck!

Business and hospitality, eh?
Look for a seasonal job at a summer camp. Many camps have dizzyingly busy kitchens and reservations offices. They need people who can think straight about stuff like ordering supplies, supervising younger workers, getting broken stuff fixed and clogged stuff unclogged.
If you have a church affiliation, working at your denomination's summer camp is a really good choice. The mission of most of these camps is to help young adults like you develop your careers, while caring for the summer campers.
Get on it. The camps are staffing up now. Good luck!
