Is the pediatrics a very hard field to get in to?
I love children and I would love to work with them. I just do not know if this would be a hard field emotionally, seeing very ill children. #medicine #pediatrics #hospital-and-health-care

You will need to get good grades in college in order to apply for medical school. At the medical school I attended, the average GPA is reported to be 3.85, so even one or two B's can hurt your chances of acceptance.
After medical school, getting a pediatric residency should not be a problem. The top programs will always be very competitive, but most every applicant can count on finding a spot somewhere.

I would not say it is hard to get into peds nursing, but you *may* have to work in a different area first depending on where you live. I worked in adult psych first and now I work in peds psych. I am not sure about how hard it is for MDs/DOs to get peds residencies. Emotionally, it can be tough sometimes (especially at first), but you kind of get used to it. You also have to find ways to take care of yourself. Personally, I like mindfulness and exercise.

There are many healthcare professions that work with children, not just ill children in the hospital, but children who are behind in developmental skills. I'm a pediatric physical therapist and purposefully play with babies for my job. I love it! Occupational and speech therapists also work in this part of pediatrics and it requires less school with more one on one time with the kids. I can't recommend it enough
