Elise’s Answer

Hello!

College can be expensive, and there are a lot of resources at different schools that can help you pay for college. Contact the financial aid center, and ask for options. Also, if you are interested in languages, check out the U.S. Dept of Education's FLAS fellowship. It is a scholarship of $15,000. Many schools offer many other scholarship opportunities as well.

Goodluck,
Elise

Kanon’s Answer

Hey! The way I would suggest you think about this is to consider what the job will pay after college and then compare that to the cost of a particular college. For example, if you want to be a school teacher that makes $40,000 a year going to Harvard and paying $200,000 for an education degree is an EXPENSIVE college. However, if you want to be a surgeon that makes $400,000 than a Harvard pre-med degree might be a value.

In my work experience there is no correlation between the college someone went to and how high they climbed the career ladder (my CEO dropped out of college and is a billionaire :)). My advice would be to go to a college you can pay cash for,and graduate with no debt. Five years into your career the college wont make that much difference, but being debt free will!!!

Good luck! You can do this!!!

Martijn’s Answer

Hi Allison!

College can be as expensive as you want it to be.
Of course you have your standard subscription fees, but there are ways to save money.
Why do you always have to buy new expensive books whilst you can use the copy machine.
You don't always have to buy lunch in the canteen but you can bring your own sandwich occasionally.
When you are very good at a specific school subject, you can even earn money by giving tutoring classes to others.
I even borrowed money (via scholarship) to survive my college period, because it can get expensive.

Your college period is an investment for later! Don't be to penny-pinching but spend your money on a responsible way!

All the best!

Rachel’s Answer

It can get very expensive! But, apply for as many schoalrships as you can get your hands on and Google search everything your are elligible for. Use fastwebs.org and also decide on an affordable college that has what you want and meets your needs- Collegeboard.org is a great resource for this! I poured through the pages of universities all over the U.S. when I was a senior in high school. Collegeboard was my go-to site! They put all of the information in one place and it is very easy to use. They even have various filters you can apply to see only colleges that have programs you are interested. To determine academic rigor, look at the admissions requirements, G.P.A. of past admitted applicants, SAT/ACT scores, class rank etc. This will give you an idea of what scores and grades you need to be accepted. However, don't be discouraged your application will be reviewed based on the full picture! College-board will help you get an idea of what is most important to the specific school you are applying to

Kevin’s Answer

College can be expensive but there are many ways to make it cheaper. You should prepare to apply for scholarships that will pay some or all of your college tuition. These can be based on athletics, academics or even leadership in school clubs and organizations. Apply for scholarships even if you don’t think you can get it - it has to go to someone. If you happen to not get a scholarship, you can always get student loans and pay them back over several years starting after you graduate college. See fafsa.gov
