Should I major in Education and Medicine at the same time? Is it too much work?

I am a junior in high school who loves to teach kids, I have been tutoring and teaching my peers and children outside of school as well. But I would love to go into medicine as well and become a Pediatrician. #medicine #teaching #teacher #college-major #education #career-paths #pediatrician

Leslie’s Answer

You definitely can major in medicine and education at the same time. At most schools, "medicine" is itself not a major. Rather, people are "pre-med" but have a different major, like biology or chemistry. Then, they take pre-med classes that are required to get accepted to a medical school. So you could technically be an education major but be "pre-med" and just make sure you take the classes that you will need for medical school.

That being said, though, why do you need to major in education if you are interested in being a pediatrician? You can always continue to mentor and teach kids while in college without having to major in education. I would only do that major if you actually want to be a teacher.

but you should work in the same field of studying . in that way , you will be able to link between your education and your work

Hi Sofia. I think it’s great that you want to study education and medicine. While your college course load might be challenging, it will be fulfilling once you graduate. You will have a good amount of flexibility to go into teaching or maybe even become a physician. You are keeping a number of professional career options open until you truly decide which career will make you the happiest. Good luck with your education future profession!
